Southern Stars (UK) Fellowship [SSUKF] was formed in October 1995 with aim of "Providing a body of people who can supply help and support at Scouting and Guiding events throughout the UK and overseas, as and when appropriate".
In 2004 at Gilwell Reunion George Purdy OBE became President of Southern Stars (UK) Fellowship. at the same reunion our new Chief Scout Peter Duncan launched our new website.
Events we have worked at include various Cub and Beavers Days, Gilwell Winter Camp, work weekends at Gilwell and Foxlease in the New Forest, WINGS, Campdowne, Goose, Avon Jamboree and many others.
Although we are a UK Fellowship we do have a global perspective. Members have worked in Chile, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and Iceland. Serbia and Fiji will soon join that list. Of course our main thrust is to support Scouting in the UK but it is nice to travel.
Southern Stars has, and will continue to build on, a reputation for reliability and flexibility.
Due to the close friendships developed within SSUKF and our excellent members communication structure we find that our members are more likely to attend and work at events because they:
Receive up to date, accurate and relevant event information
Can easily ask questions of the Events Coordinator/SSUKF Management Committee
Can receive/ask for advice from very experienced members
Will be welcomed and encouraged to attend events by other SSUKF members
Feel part of a close knit family within the wider Scouting family
SSUKF members are experienced in a wide range of duties including: Security, Catering,
Food Distribution, running physical activities, toilet cleaning and site service work.
Always being prepared to work 'out of the box' makes SSUKF a useful tool for any event planner.
The teamwork of SSUKF members never fails to impress wherever in the world or whatever size of event they are at.
SSUKF has many International Friends who are able to keep in touch by registering as an International Friend of SSUKF. It is by keeping in touch with our International Friends that they feel encouraged to attend major events in the UK, registering through their own Scout Association, knowing that they will have friends waiting to greet them. Our International Friends also invite SSUKF members to visit their country to assist at major events or just visit. This friendship enables SSUKF to build Scouting links and friends throughout the world. For more information on becoming an International Friend of Southern Stars (UK) Fellowship please visit our website at www.ssukf.org
To join Southern Stars (UK) Fellowship as a Full UK Member email our Membership Secretary at info@ssukf.org>or visit our website at www.ssukf.org .
At Southern Stars we "Work Hard and Play Hard" so come on and join us.
